Offshore Radio Scotland
Real Audio Recordings
On this site you will find some rare programme excerpts from the 60's offshore radio station Radio Scotland. I recorded all of these excerpts in July 1967. The recordings are from Tony Allen and Brian Webb (Brian McKenzie on RNI) programmes. They are recorded in Real Audio format.
Radio Scotland broadcast from a ship called the Comet. At the time these recordings were made, the ship was anchored on the east coast of Scotland, near the mouth of the River Forth. The announced wavelength was 242 meters, and the transmitters were two 10kw RCA transmitters, coupled together to give a maximum power of 20kw. Radio Scotland closed down at midnight on August 14th 1967. Some of the DJs who worked for the station were, Tony Allan, Mark West (Mark Wesley), Stevie Merike, Stuart Henry, Ben Healey, Mel Howard, Brian Webb (Brian McKenzie), Richard Park, Roger Gale, Doug Kerr and Jack Maclauchlin. The station organised lots of 'Clan Balls' (roadshows) around Scotland with appearances by many of the top singers, groups and the station DJs.
You will need a Real Audio player to listen to these files. If you do not have one, you can download one for free from this page.
